Back to success stories

‘Hard work, determination, self-discipline and pure grit has enabled me to build the foundations for my career.’ Andelene Theron, a 2013 matric learner at Curro Langebaan, is now a successful financial accountant at one of South Africa’s leading food processing entities and says that Curro played a critical role in equipping her for the rigor of the years after school.

Her journey at Curro started in Grade 10 after moving to the West Coast. ‘I must admit, the initial transition was a shock to the system, but this is a decision I am forever grateful for as, looking back, I can clearly see how the curriculum at Curro prepared me for the journey that laid ahead.’ Andelene is proud to have attended the first Grade 12 academic prize-giving ceremony at Curro Langebaan where she was awarded third place overall in Curro’s IEB schools. She was also on the IEB outstanding achievers list.

In 2016 she completed her BCompt degree (cum laude) and afterwards she obtained her honours, all while working full-time. ‘I was able to pass both SAICA board examinations during 2018, on the first attempt, and completed my articles near the end of 2019 after which I proceeded to register as a chartered accountant. Currently I am a financial accountant at one of South Africa’s leading food processing entities, which is listed on the JSE.’ According to Andelene she could not have done all this without the support of her mother, sister, brother-in-law and of course Curro.

To show her appreciation for what Curro Langebaan has contributed towards her reaching her goals, and to encourage and motivate all Curro Langebaan learners, she initiated a programme to award an annual cash prize to the high-school learner in each grade who shows the biggest improvement from the previous year. ‘With dedication and hard work any learner can reach for the stars’, says Andelene and we couldn’t agree more.
